Wow, they allow you to have a cat in the Gallaudet dorms? Very cool.

"It’s great to have interpreters voicing what the students are signing, because it means that for the first time in my teaching career, I have full auditory access to classroom discussions."

I'm not sure what this means: is it that you have one voice in one place to listen to rather than different voices through the classroom?

I've been "hearing" your name through blogosphere, so I thought I'd better visit sometime. Been meaning to read your book, too. I promise I'll look it up the next time I go to the library.

Glad you are getting over that cold.

ASL and oralism/audism...I hope there's a happy medium. I am culturally hearing because that's the way I was brought up. I do have a CI, newly implanted in July.

Well, I'm sure I'll be back to visit soon.

I was wondering where the heck you were! I knew you were at Gallaudet but you've been incognito- Have you heard of a nettie pot or a nasal irrigator? You can get it at the grocery store and trust me, it'll help 100% with the sinus issue.

Also, I agree with Dr. Tucker- as the mom of a child with a CI (who has attended MSD), we do feel it is important that while we pursue an oral approach,(again everybody's journey is different-my son was born a hearing child and lost his hearing due to illness) we still embrace ASL and deaf culture and NEED it in our everyday life.

I wish I could come out to Gallaudet and see you- you & Josh wanna come out to the Maryland suburbs for dinnner???

Loved the post....
I'm glad you're enjoying teaching. Even if you're twenty years older than everyone else in the room, keep going to the parties. I think that may be the secret to learning a new language.
